Zinan Yang

Robotics and motion control engineer — the control software between an algorithm and a machine that actually moves.

My background is split across the two halves of that problem: a robotics MSc and a quadruped navigation stack on one side, and four years of industrial servo motion systems on the other.

I am currently an Application Engineer at Siemens in Beijing, working on motion control — SINAMICS S120/S200/V90 drive systems, reusable SCL axis-control libraries covering homing, cam profiles and diagnostics, and the engineering tooling that generates and validates a machine’s control project instead of hand-building it. Before Siemens I built the navigation stack for a quadruped robot at Geely Research Institute — EKF state estimation, A* planning, LiDAR processing, ROS.

I am moving back towards robotics, which is where the MSc and the quadruped work started and where the motion control work has been pointing all along. Industrial servo control and robot motion control are the same discipline in different vocabulary: trajectory generation, closed-loop position control, coordinated multi-axis motion, and the unglamorous business of what the system does when a sensor lies or an axis faults mid-move.
